Install Krill Desktop App for Windows

Install the Krill Desktop App on Windows

Krill Desktop is a Compose Multiplatform GUI application for monitoring and controlling Krill servers on your network. On Windows it ships as a downloadable .msi installer — there is no Microsoft Store listing. If you are installing the server instead, see Install Krill Server on Raspberry Pi, or the macOS desktop install / Linux desktop install.

Requirements: Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). The download bundles its own Java runtime, so — unlike the Linux package — you do not need to install Java separately. The installer is per-user and does not require administrator rights.

Download

Grab the latest installer:

Run the .msi and follow the prompts. Krill Desktop installs to your user profile and appears in the Start menu under Krill.

Getting past the SmartScreen warning

The current installer is not yet code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen shows a blue “Windows protected your PC” dialog the first time you run it. This is expected for an unsigned download — to proceed:

  1. Click More info.
  2. Click Run anyway.

The installer then runs normally. (Code signing — which removes this warning entirely — is on the roadmap.)
